President Margvelashvili Visits Brussels
Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, who is paying a working visit to Brussels will meet NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on May 11.
On May 12 he will meet President of the European Council Donald Tusk.
During the visit Margvelashvili will also meet EU commissioner for neighborhood policy and enlargement negotiations Johannes Hahn and participate in a conference on “Eastern Partnership – A Partnership of Free Choice”, which will be held at the European Parliament on May 11.
Also on May 11 he will meet members of the European Parliament foreign affairs committee.
The visit will come ahead of the EU Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, scheduled for May 21-22.
In a joint letter with PM Irakli Garibashvili and parliament speaker Davit Usupashvili, President Margvelashvili has urged the EU to make an “unambiguous endorsement of visa-free regime” with Georgia at the Riga Summit. The Georgian leaders also expressed hope that the country’s “European perspective” will also be acknowledged at the Riga Summit.
“Upcoming Riga Summit and our expectations will of course be high on agenda of meetings in Brussels,” Georgian President’s foreign policy adviser, Tengiz Pkhaladze, said. “We will also discuss situation in Georgia and in the region, including issues related to security.”
In Brussels Margvelashvili also plans a meeting with King Philippe of Belgium, according to the Georgian president’s office.
