Georgian, NATO Defense Ministers to Meet in Brussels

After visiting Greece, Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania headed to Brussels where he will meet his counterparts from NATO-member states on Wednesday morning.

The NATO-Georgia Commission on the level of defense ministers will discuss “the current status of Georgia’s defence reforms, and plans for further work,” NATO said in a press release, adding that the meeting “will also be a chance to discuss the wider regional implications of the Russia-Ukraine crisis.”

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who presided over NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting of the defense ministers in Brussels on June 3, said that development of partnership with Georgia and “the impact of Russia’s actions in the wider region” will be discuss during a meeting with Alasania.

The Georgian Ministry of Defense said that in Brussels, Alasania will also hold bilateral meetings with the NATO Secretary General and his counterparts from Belgium, Denmark, Turkey, UK and Ukraine.

On June 2-3 the Georgian Defense Minister visited Greece where he met his Greek counterpart Dimitris Avramopoulos, as well as with foreign minister and parliament members.
