Parliament Passes New Election Code

Parliament passed with its third and final reading new election code on December 27.

Also on December 27 the Parliament approved with its third and final reading election-related constitutional amendments, envisaging the next Parliament’s slightly reshaped configuration with 77 party-list and 73 majoritarian MPs, instead of existing 75/75.

According to the same constitutional amendments a party or an election bloc, clearing a 5% threshold, will be automatically awarded with six seats in the Parliament, thus having a possibility to form a parliamentary faction.

The same amendments increase bar for passing constitutional amendment from current two-third to three-fourth of MPs in 150-seat Parliament starting from late 2013, after the presidential elections.
