Annual Inflation 13.5% in April
Annual inflation was 13.5% in April, down from 13.9% in March, the Georgian state statistics office, Geostat, said on May 3.
Monthly inflation decreased slightly in April for the first time since July, 2010, according to Geostat.
Food and fuel prices are main factors behind the high inflation.
“Our expectation is that inflation will start decreasing starting in June in line with stabilization of fuel and food prices,” Edward Gardner, IMF senior resident representative in Georgia, said on May 3.
Prices on food and non-alcoholic beverages increased 28.6% year-on-year in April making its share in total annual inflation 11.8%, according to Geostat.
Prices on fruits increased 70.6% y/y in April; vegetables – 36.4%; food oil – 34.5%; bread and other wheat-containing products – 25.8% and meat – 23.3%.
Fuel prices saw 21.7% increase y/y in April, according to Geostat.
