Journalists’ Protest Over Photographers’ Case

Dozens of protest t-shirt-wearing journalists gathered outside the Parliament on July 12, carrying banners and blowing whistles to demand lifting the veil of secrecy drawn over the case of arrested photojournalists, who have been charged with espionage. The gathering was part of a campaign led by media activists, united in a media watchdog coalition, which held a similar rally outside the Interior Ministry on July 11. The group has also demanded a meeting with influential Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili over the case of photographers. It emerged on July 12 that such meeting with a group of journalists and media activists will be held on July 13.
