The ruling National Movement party will have 39 seats in new 50-member Tbilisi City Council with the rest 11 seats distributed among four other parties.
The ruling party is also heading to winning majority of seats in rest of 63 councils across the country.
In Tbilisi the ruling party is expected to take all 25 seats, which were for grabs through majoritarian, first-past-the-post contest in Tbilisi’s single-mandate constituencies, according to the early results.
In addition the National Movement party, which garnered 52.48% of votes, secured 14 seats from 25 available through party-list, proportional contest.
Alliance for Georgia, a four-party coalition, received 17.9% votes and secured 5 seats in the Tbilisi City Council, followed by Christian-Democratic Movement – 12%, translated into 3 seats in the council; National Council, a three-party coalition, has 8.3% and 2 seats and Industrialists Party – 6.3%, which means 1 seat in the Tbilisi City Council.
Other nine political parties running for the Tbilisi City Council failed to clear 4% threshold.
From Alliance for Georgia the following candidates will take seats in the Tbilisi City Council: Tina Khidasheli of the Republican Party; Davit Saganelidze of the New Rights Party; Zurab Abashidze of Alasania’s party Our Georgia–Free Democrats (OGFD); Victor Dolidze of OGFD, who is Georgia’s former ambassador to OSCE and Natela Machavariani of Georgia’s Way, party led by ex-foreign minister Salome Zourabichvili.
Christian-Democratic Movement endorsed following candidates: ex-TV anchor Inga Grigolia; Jaba Samushia and Zaza Gabunia.
The National Council will be represented in the Tbilisi City Council by Koba Davitashvili, a current member of the City Council and leader of People’s Party and Kakha Kukava, one of the leaders of Conservative Party. Ex-PM Zurab Nogaideli’s party, which is also part of National Council, will not be represented in the City Council.
Industrialist Party, which secured one seat, will be represented by current member of City Council Giorgi Tkemaladze.
From the ruling National Movement party the following candidates were endorsed: Zaal Samadashvili, chairman of an outgoing Tbilisi City Council; Koki Ionatamishvili, founder and former head of Tbilisi-based NGO nGnI; Mamuka Akhvlediani, who was Tbilisi’s vice-mayor; Mariam Didebulidze; Lasha Imedashvili; Tariel Khizaneishvili; Petre Metreveli; Davit Ninidze; Tamaz Shoshiashvili; Sevdia Ugrekhelidze; Nikoloz Khachirashvili; Mikheil Kavtaradze; Nino Babunidze; Gela Omanidze; Nikoloz Chkhaidze, Nikoloz Bachilava, Vakhtang Natsvlishvili; Zaur Dolidze; Nino Tevdoradze; Zaza Sinauridze; Davit Gelashvili; Merab Rapava; Khvicha Sanaia; Zurab Gachechiladze; Irakli Nadiradze; Kakha Guruli; Ioseb Egutia; Irakli Shikhiashvili; Alexandre Nikolaishvili; Giorgi Chachanidze; Irakli Dvali; Shota Kurdadze; Giorgi Nensadze; Mamuka Gugeshashvili; Vakhtang Tsagareishvili; Davit Tsereteli; Nikoloz Khachirishvili; Besarion Bendeliani and Davit Chincharadze.
