Egyptian FM Visits Georgia
Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, visited Georgia on May 25, after trip to Azerbaijan previous day.
“I want to emphasize on well-thought-out and balanced approach, which Egypt has towards the South Caucasus, especially concerning the Georgian territorial integrity,” Grigol Vashadze, the Georgian foreign minister, said after meeting with the Egyptian counterpart.
The visit, which was Egyptian Foreign Minister’s first ever trip to Georgia, aimed at fostering bilateral relations and at holding "consultations over all the regional and international political issues of mutual interest," the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.
An agreement on avoiding double-taxation was signed during the visit.
Georgian PM Nika Gilauri paid a two day visit to Egypt in January, 2010.
According to the Georgian state statistics office, the largest amount of foreign direct investment after United Arab Emirates came in Georgia from Egypt – USD 167.5 million – in 2009.
