Georgian Parliamentary Chairman Davit Bakradze left for an official visit to Sweden on on May 5-7, the Georgian Parliament’s press office said.

During the visit Bakradze will meet with speaker of Swedish Parliament Per Westerberg and Foreign Minister Carl Bildt. On May 6 Davit Bakradze will meet with Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf, according to the Parliament’s press office reported.

“Sweden has played a very active role in respect of Georgia during its EU presidency [in second half of 2009],” Bakradze told reporters before departure to Sweden. “Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, whom I will meet, was one of our most active supporters in the days of Russian aggression. Sweden has played a very positive role in launching EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative and today Sweden continues lobbying of Eastern direction in the European Union. Therefore, not only bilateral relations are important, but it is also vital what can be done in respect of EU and other international organizations with the help of Sweden.”
