Candidates for Public TV Board Vacant Seat Named

President Saakashvili has named three candidates for one vacant seat in the 15-member public broadcaster’s board of trustees, according to the President’s administration.

It is now up to the Parliament to select one from the three candidates.

One of the candidates is Mamuka Pachuashvili, a co-publisher of a daily newspaper 24 Saati, who has already been a board member and whose 2-year term expired in March after which it became required to announce a competition for a vacant seat. Law allows a person to serve two consecutive terms as a board member. Pachuashvili is likely to be re-elected.

Two other candidates are Archil Bubuteishvili, a technical director of Tbilisi-based FM radio station, RadioKalaki, and Mikheil Aidinov, head of the Association of Russian-Speaking Journalists of Georgia.

The three candidates were selected from the list of total of six applicants, also including Ia Mamaladze, chairperson of Georgian Regional Media Association; Alexander Vakhtangov, a film director and Tamaz Bibiluri, an editor of a small newspaper Skhivi.
