Putin Meets Bagapsh in Moscow
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met with Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh in Moscow on March 26 to discuss the economic cooperation issues.
In his opening remarks for the press Putin said that there already existed a legal framework for the cooperation with Abkhazia in number of spheres; in particular he emphasized on importance of military agreement.
Putin said that implementation of economic projects was now important with fostering railway, land and maritime transport links between the region and Russia.
The Russian PM said that 700 million rubles (about USD 23.7 million) of soft loan had been allocated by Russia for the Abkhaz central bank and in addition, he said, Abkhazia would receive as a financial assistance 10 billion rubles (about USD 338 million) in 2010-2012.
During the meeting Bagapsh said that it was important to implement all the agreements “without delays.”
“We have little time and we understand our problems. Therefore, we should discuss those issues, which have been raised, and start their implementation promptly,” he told the Russian PM.
Sergey Bagapsh has been paying one-week visit to Moscow since March 23.
