New Member of Public TV Board Elected

Parliament elected on March 23 Giorgi Meladze as a new member of the Georgian Public Broadcaster’s board of trustees.

Meladze is an executive director of a Tbilisi-based think-tank, Liberty Institute, which is closely associated with the authorities.

One seat in the 15-member board of trustees became vacant after its former member Zurab Kharatishvili became chairman of the Central Election Commission in January, 2010.

There is one more vacant seat in the board, as term in office of Mamuka Pachuashvili has expired. Competition was announce earlier this month and deadline for submitting application expires later next week. According to legal procedures, President Saakashvili will select three contenders and then the Parliament will elect one from those three candidates.
