Constitutional Amendment on Elections Date Passed

Parliamentary passed on February 12 with its third and final hearing a constitutional amendment saying that the local elections should be held no later than June 1, 2010.

Ruling party lawmakers said a separate amendment would be initiated in the election code, which will specify that the elections will be held on May 30, 2010.

President Saakashvili reiterated last week that the local elections would be held on May 30.
