U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Visits Georgia
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg is holding talks in Tbilisi from Friday morning to discuss with the authorities and the opposition political, democratic and economic reforms in Georgia.
He is accompanied by Philip Gordon, assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs.
Before meeting with President Saakashvili, the U.S. delegation is holding talks with some opposition leaders, including: Nino Burjanadze, ex-parliamentary speaker and leader of Democratic Movement–United Georgia; Davit Gamkrelidze, leader of New Rights Party (part of Alliance for Georgia); Giorgi Targamadze, leader of the parliamentary minority and of Christian-Democratic Movement and Levan Gachechiladze, co-founder of public movement Defend Georgia.
The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State arrived in Tbilisi from Yerevan and will leave for Germany to take part in the Munich security conference on February 5.
