Deputy FM Speaks of ‘Not Enough’ Int’l Pressure on Russia
Giga Bokeria, Georgia’s deputy foreign minister, said international community was not exerting “enough pressure” on Russia on the series of detentions of Georgian citizens for crossing breakaway region’s administrative borders or, as he put it, “occupation line”.
“On this problem [of detention of persons], in general, we think that the pressure is being exerted on Russia [by the international community], but is not enough; this pressure exists – and we are grateful to everyone who maintains this stance and in fact it is their obligation as well – but it is not enough; and the result is that we still face this problem, which is a practice of kidnapping of the Georgian citizens for crossing the occupation line,” Bokeria said while speaking with public TV’s program Dialogue with Davit Paichadze late on December 3.
Bokeria also said that Russian occupying force was fully responsible for the series of detentions, because Russian forces exercise effective control of the occupied territories.
