Russia Grants Refugee Status to Former Georgian Serviceman
Russia has granted a refugee status to Alik Bzhania, who served in the Georgian coast guard and requested political asylum in Russia in May, Interfax news agency reported on November 5 quoting Russia’s Federal Migration Service.
In June Bzhania told Moscow-based Echo Moskvy radio station that he had fled Georgia to seek political asylum in Russia.
Meanwhile, two Russian soldiers have already abandoned their military units in breakaway South Ossetia to seek asylum in Georgia.
