Lithuanian Foreign Minister Visits Georgia
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Vygaudas Ušackas arrived in Georgia on a two-day official visit on October 1.
He has already met with his Georgian counterpart Grigol Vashadze. Later he is expected to meet with President Saakashvili and Parliamentary Chairman Davit Bakradze.
Prior to his visit to Tbilisi, Ušackas said while commenting on the report by EU-funded fact-finding mission into the August war that he would not have supported setting up of the inquiry mission if he had been in the EU Council at the time."
“I don’t think it’s useful from a pragmatic point of view, just one year after the conflict, to engage in a not very helpful debate about who should be blamed,” he said in an interview with the Brussels-based EUobserver.com on September 30.
“If the international community had stepped in earlier and provided integration prospects for Georgia the war could have been avoided.”
He also said that his trip to Tbilisi was designed to show “solidarity” to the Georgian people.
