MP: ‘We don’t Need Saakashvili’s Milosevicization’
A vice-speaker of the Georgian Parliament from the Christian-Democratic Movement (CDM), Levan Vepkhvadze, called on politicians to show unity over the August war and not to put a blame on President Saakashvili.
“Although some may be in the opposition, the one should not say that it was the Georgian forces, which ‘attacked a sleeping Tskhinvali’,” MP Vepkhvadze said while speaking at a parliamentary session on August 7,
“Regardless of political differences, which we may have, we do not need President Saakashvili’s Milosevicization, because it will result into Kosovozation of South Ossetia and Abkhazia,” he said.
He, however, also said that the authorities should not shun away from discussing shortcomings during the conduct of the military operations, revealed by the parliamentary commission, which studied the August war.
A widespread opinion on which many of the opposition politicians stick is that President Saakashvili yielded to Russia’s provocations and dragged the country into the war, which was possible to avert in case of prudent policies carried out by the Georgian authorities.
President Saakashvili said in an interview with Imedi TV couple of days ago: “Those saying that Georgia launched the war are marginalized group of politicians in Georgia.”
Vice-Speaker of the Parliament and a member of Christian-Democratic Movement, Levan Vepkhvadze said on August 7 that “it is not necessary to carry out Saakashvili’s Milosevicization.”
