Georgia to Send Battalion to Afghanistan in 2010
Georgia will send a battalion-size force to contribute NATO-led operations in Afghanistan in 2010, the Georgian Defense Ministry said on June 23.
“Georgian soldiers will participate without national caveats attached,” it said, which means that Tbilisi will not impose restrictions where its troops can go and what missions they can conduct in Afghanistan.
31st battalion of the 3rd infantry brigade will be under the U.S. command, the Georgian MoD said in a statement.
Meanwhile, this autumn Georgia also plans to send a company-size force to Afghanistan. One company from the 2nd infantry brigade will be deployed under the French command, according to the Defense Ministry.
