Protesters to ‘Ask for Church Leader’s Advice’
Giorgi Gachechiladze, a singer and an activist who has turned into informal leader of the ongoing protests, told thousands of protesters on the national stadium to march towards the Holy Trinity Cathedral for an advice from Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Ilia II.
Giorgi Gachechiladze met with an influential head of the Georgian Church late on May 25.
“We have no government, but we have a spiritual father, our Patriarch Ilia II. We, the Georgian population, entire people, will now march towards the Holly Trinity Cathedral and our Patriarch will receive us and tell us what we should do afterwards,” he told the protesters. “We will match towards the yard of the Holly Trinity Cathedral and stay there until we hear from the Patriarch, which road we should take tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and further on.”
