Police Claim Suspected Mutineers Intended Fleeing to S.Ossetia

Three suspects in connection to reported Mukhrovani mutiny were planning to escape to breakaway South Ossetia before being ambushed by the police, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on May 21.

In a separate brief statement the ministry said earlier on May 21, that Gia Krialashvili, a former military officer, was killed and two other suspects, a former military officer, Koba Otanadze and Levan Amiridze, who at the time of Mukhrovani incident was commander of rangers unit at one of Tbilisi-based military units, were injured in a shootout with police in Tbilisi outskirts.

According to the Interior Ministry, the three men were on their intending to leave Tbilisi with a minibus and to infiltrate into the Russian-occupied South Ossetia via the village of Tsinagari. The village is located in breakaway South Ossetia, south-east from Tskhinvali. It is few kilometers away from Georgia’s main east-west highway.
 
The Interior Ministry also said that the suspects carried firearms, USD 3,700 cash, four mobile phones and dozens of SIM cards.
