Saakashvili Calls for Unity on Forgiveness Day
President Saakashvili asked for forgiveness and called for unity on Sunday, when Georgian Orthodox Christians were marking the forgiveness day.
Speaking to believers in the Holy Trinity Cathedral after sermon by Patriarch Ilia II, Saakashvili said: “I want to plea for forgiveness to the god and our people. I want to ask for forgiveness to those who need consolation, but to whom I failed to provide enough consolation; to those who need help, but to whom we failed to provide enough help; I want to ask for forgiveness to those, to whom we intentionally or unwittingly caused pain.”
“I also want to say that today for achieving our huge goals Georgia, as never before, needs unity, calm, patience and that will be impossible without mutual forgiveness,” he continued. “Let’s see in each other dignity, instead of shortcomings; let’s forget and forgive each other all the bad things – I personally always forget bad things soon; and let’s see in an event or a person – which at one glance may seem unacceptable – kindness and benefit for us and a step to the better future.”
