Two Georgians Held in S.Ossetia
The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs said that four citizens of Georgia were kidnapped by “the South Ossetian separatists” at about 16:30pm local time on February 27.
Four men, it said, were held while they were driving from the village of Koda in direction of the village of Chvrinisi of Kareli district on the Georgian side of the administrative border.
Two of them were later released, but two others are held inside the breakaway region and kidnappers are now demanding EUR 6,000 for their release, according to the Interior Ministry.
The South Ossetian side has confirmed that two Georgians were detained and were currently held by the South Ossetian law enforcement agencies. Interfax news agency quoted the breakaway region’s Defense Ministry officail as saying that the two Georgians were detained because of "illegal crossing the border" near the village of Tsnelisi, but “no ransom has been demanded for their release.”
