PM: Group Set Up to Tackle Democratic Reforms

PM Nika Gilauri said on February 12, that he had signed a decree on setting up of an inter-agency working group to tackle democratic reforms and to foster a dialogue between the political forces.

Dimitri Shashkin, the minister for penitentiary and probation, has been appointed as the chairman of the group.

“The working group will consist of all those persons, who want to participate in democratic reforms,” Gilauri told reporters on February 12, adding that the country had the problems with democratic institutions.

Dimitri Shashkin has called on the political parties to cooperate closely with the group to jointly “create stronger democratic institutions.”

“We call on the parliament and the political parties, the society and non-governmental organizations, to launch a dialogue jointly, to develop recommendations based on which we will implement successful reforms,” he said.
