UK Minister Visits Georgia
Baroness Ann Taylor, the UK’s minister for international defence and security, is visiting Georgia on February 10-12 to discuss, among other things, Georgia’s cooperation with NATO in frames of Annual National Programme, the British embassy in Tbilisi said.
“We enjoy a close relationship and have developed an extensive bilateral security and defence relationship over a number of years,” she said. “The United Kingdom remains a consistent supporter of Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations and we were pleased with the declaration of the Bucharest Summit that ‘Georgia will be a member of NATO’ and the subsequent NATO decision in December to develop an Annual National Programme. This demonstrates the Alliance’s commitment to help Georgia progress towards membership.”
“There is of course a lot of work ahead, much of which will be a Georgian responsibility. The United Kingdom will support Georgia in this. I look forward to discussing the next steps towards closer Georgian ties with NATO,” she added.
During the visit the Minister for International Defence and Security will meet the Georgian Defence Minister; the Parliamentary Chairman; the Foreign Minister and the Deputy State Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration.
