EU’s War Inquiry Mission Visits Georgia
After visiting Moscow last week, EU-sponsored inquiry mission into the August war, arrived in Tbilisi and held talks with Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze on February 9.
Vashadze said that the commission had sent to the Georgian side a list of questions, which Georgia would respond “after serious preparations.” He told journalists that questions were mainly about “what particular circumstances were preceding Russian aggression in Georgia, when the war started, when the shelling of the Georgian villages started, etc.”
“The Georgian side has already pledged openness and transparency in its cooperation with the [inquiry] commission,” Vashadze said.
The mission, led by Swiss diplomat, Heidi Tagliavini, plans to meet with the Defense Minister; Interior Minister; State Minister for Reintegration, as well as the Parliamentary Chairman and a group of lawmakers during the visit.
