Burjanadze Focuses on Demand for Early Presidential Polls

Nino Burjanadze, the former parliamentary chairperson and leader of Democratic Movement-United Georgia party, said early presidential elections should precede early parliamentary polls.

“Through coordination the political parties should achieve holding of early presidential,” Burjanadze said in an interview with the Georgian daily, Rezonansi, published on December 29.

“Some time ago I was speaking moderately about the early elections saying that consultations were needed to decide which election to hold first – presidential or parliamentary. But after Perevi incident and Akhalgori incident, there is no doubt that the President is a major problem  and that this President will not hold democratic [parliamentary] elections; the early parliamentary elections will again turn into false and the parliament will fail to have any influence on the political life. We should no way agree on holding of early parliamentary elections; we should demand early presidential elections in spring,” she said.
