Tskhinvali Plans 890-strong Unit to Protect Border
South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity said that Tskhinvali plans to deploy about 890 border guards on the administrative border with Georgia, Interfax news agency reported on December 9.
“A part of them will be Russian citizens, whom we will invite to serve on the basis of contracts,” Kokoity said.
The Russian press was reporting recently that Russia planned to deploy its servicemen from the Border Guard Service – the body which is under the subordination of the Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).
Last week Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh also announced about planned reinforcement of the administrative border with Georgia and said that the Abkhaz border guards would replace the Russian servicemen on twelve checkpoints according the administrative border.
