CEC Releases Final Voter List Figures

Number of voters, eligible to cast ballot in the May 30 local elections, stands at 3,544,770, according to the final version of voters’ list released by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on May 25.

The capital city, Tbilisi, has 981,505 voters, according to the data available on CEC’s website.
 
The figure in this final version of voters’ list is down by 42,655 from earlier list, which was released by CEC in February. Since then the list underwent multiple review and rechecking, including by the political parties.

“The current list of voters is significantly better than it was in February,” Zurab Kharatishvili, the CEC chairman said.

The voters’ list no longer includes those over 12,000 voters, who are not currently registered at any address. These are those citizens who have been de-registered from These are those citizens, who have been deregistered from addresses upon the request of flat owners, who found out that person or persons unknown for them were registered in their flats.

The list includes those 125,000 Georgian citizens who are registered to be abroad. Such voters in the list are indicated “being abroad” and “registered at [Georgian] consulate”.

Number of registered voters was 3,372,836 during the January, 2008 presidential elections with 941,400 of them in Tbilisi.

Four months later, during the May 21, 2008 parliamentary elections the figure in the voters’ list stood at 3,472,876, including 946,886 in the capital city.
