Shooting Reported at S.Ossetian Border

The Georgian Interior Ministry said that the South Ossetian militias fired from “large-caliber mortar” in direction of the police station in the village of Mereti early on December 5.

The fire was opened from the village of Khelchua, on the South Ossetian side of the border, at about 7:30am local time, Interior Ministry said. Both Mereti and Khelchua are located in the east from the breakaway region’s capital, Tskhinvali. A building located next to the police station in Mereti was damaged in the shelling, according to the Interior Ministry. No one was injured.
