British PM Pledges Financial Support for Georgia
The UK Government fully supports Georgia’s territorial integrity and will provide Georgia with financial and economic support, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said after a meeting with his Georgian counterpart, Lado Gurgenidze, in London on September 19.
“When the donor conference takes place in a few days, we will be working with our European partners to ensure that there is sufficient support for the reconstruction of Georgia as well as for humanitarian aid,” PM Brown said.
Georgian PM Gurgenidze said that the present assistance “is very important for Georgia at this time, as Georgia faces the existential crossroads of either staying the course as a young liberal European democracy with a vibrant market economy, or degenerating into something weighed down by its Soviet past.”
