Saakashvili Optimistic about Georgia’s Future

Russia’s aggression in Georgia has laid the foundation for a new epoch in international relations, President Saakashvili said before his departure for the United States on September 19 to attend a UN General Assembly session.

“As a result of Russian aggression a new epoch in international relations has started. The world has changed completely. The rules of the game have significantly changed,” Saakashvili told reporters. “It is very important for our country, which enjoys the great support of the entire civilized world, to join hands with our friends, our allies, Europe, the United States, all responsible countries in the world, to develop our relations very intensively with China, other big countries, our neighborhood, and to achieve a peaceful settlement of our problems.”

“We should ourselves be responsible partners, but at the same time, it is very important to continue the reconstruction of our country, to continue our development, to strengthen our democracy,” he continued. “We need patience, we need time, we need consolidation, and everything will develop in favor of Georgia.”
