NATO, Georgia Hold Consultations

NATO’s North Atlantic Council held a meeting with Revaz Beshidze, Georgia’s ambassador to the alliance, on September 11 and discussed the current situation in Georgia, NATO said in a statement.

Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, the NATO secretary general, and ambassadors from the alliance’s 26 member states will visit Tbilisi on September 15-16.

During the visit, the delegation and Georgian officials will convene the inaugural session of the NATO-Georgia Commission, as envisaged by a decision of NATO foreign ministers on August 19.

During the meeting with the Georgian ambassador, diplomats from the North Atlantic Council “stressed a continuous will to provide wide-ranging assistance to Georgia, including in the humanitarian field,” NATO said in the statement.
