Russia Establishes Diplomatic Ties with Tskhinvali, Sokhumi
Russia has exchanged notes with Abkhazia and South Ossetia on establishment of diplomatic relations, Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, said on September 9.
He was speaking after meeting with foreign ministers from breakaway South Ossetia and Abkhazia, Murat Jioev and Sergey Shamba, respectively, in Moscow, Interfax news agency reported.
RIA Novosti reported quoting South Ossetian envoy in Moscow, Dmitry Medoev, that the agreement was reached to establish the diplomatic ties “on the level of embassies.”
