France Protests over ‘Hindering Free Movement’ of Diplomat by Russian Troops
France has protested to Russia after its ambassador to Georgia, Eric Fournier, was stopped for three hours outside Gori by the Russian troops, the French Foreign Ministry said.
“It is unacceptable that our ambassador’s freedom of movement was hindered. We have informed the Russians of this,” Reuters reported quoting, Frederic Desagneaux, the French Foreign Ministry spokesman.
He said Russian troops stopped Ambassador Fournier at a roadblock as he was returning to Tbilisi from Sachkhere in western Georgia, where a Georgian army mountain training site, sponsored by France, is located.
