MIA Denies Russia’s Allegation on Planning ‘Provocation’ in Gori
The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has strongly denied allegation by the Russian Ministry of Defense that the Georgian side was planning “a major provocation” in the town of Gori.
“Such a provocation can be staged by the Russian side itself to then justify its presence in the conflict zone,” the Georgian Interior Ministry said in a statement on August 17.
The Russian news agencies reported earlier on August 17, quoting the Russian Defense Ministry representative as saying that based on the intercepted Georgian police “radio conversation” an armed group formed by “Georgians, Ukrainians from the nationalistic group UNSO and Chechen terrorists planned to infiltrated in Gori dressed in the Russian military uniforms and start abusing the local population.”
