Spain sends half a million euros in emergency aid to the population affected by the conflict in Georgia

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Georgian National Red Cross Societies, Russian Red Cross Societies in the area, and Spain are working together to provide aid to over 50,000 refugees and displaced persons affected by the conflict.
 
Spain, through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), will contribute half a million euros in response to the international call for humanitarian aid made public last night by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The request for emergency aid totals 8 million Swiss Francs (4.96 million euros). With this aid, medical and surgical kits will be provided, as well as basic needs such as water purifiers, clothing, etc., for those displaced persons currently in North Ossetia and Georgia. And, if access is permitted, aid will be provided to the population in South Ossetia.

The Spanish government is up-to-date on the current situation in Georgia and is fully prepared to take all necessary humanitarian actions depending on the needs of the population and the evolution of the conflict.
