Strategic Targets Bombed Across Georgia

Russian aircraft dropped bombs in number of strategic places across Georgia late on August 8, including military base in Senaki and port of Poti, the Georgian media sources reported.

There are casualties, both dead and wounded as a result of air strike on port of Poti, the Georgian Public Broadcaster reported. A railway station in Senaki was also bombed, it said.

Vaziani military base outside Tbilisi was also bombed – for the forth time in a day.

“This is not the conflict in the Tskhinvali region; this is war against Russia,” Temur Iakobashvili, the Georgian state minister for reintegration, said.

"We call on Russia to cease attacks on Georgia by aircraft and missiles, respect Georgia’s territorial integrity, and withdraw its ground combat forces from Georgian soil,” U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the officials have confirmed that evacuation of personnel was ongoing from the administrative and governmental buildings. The Georgian media reported that the personnel from the newly built Presidential Palace was also evacuated, as well as residents from nearby houses in Tbilisi.
