CoE Chief Condemns ‘Terrorist Act’ in Gali

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Terry Davis said an explosion last night in a cafe in Gali in breakaway Abkhazia “appears to be a terrorist act.”

“These murders risk further aggravation of the tensions in the country, and I am very concerned that the situation may spin out of control,” Davis said in a statement on July 7. “Any side which fails to refrain from provocations – or fails to do their utmost to prevent them – must accept full responsibility for the consequences of their conduct. It is time for everyone to get their priorities straight. The only solution to the conflict is through restraint and dialogue. The people in Georgia have the right to live in peace.”
