Moscow Mayor Tells Tbilisi to Recognize Breakaway Regions

Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said Tbilisi should recognize its breakaway regions’ independence in order to resolve the conflicts.

“I think that everything will become easier if Georgia recognizes the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” Luzhkov told journalists on the sidelines of an economic forum in St. Petersburg. “This is inevitable… this is the independence, which people [in Abkhazia and South Ossetia], who are not native to Georgia, want to have.”
