Politicians Complain of Voters’ Irrationality

Two opposition politicians have complained in newspaper interviews about what they called the Georgian society’s “illogical” and “unwise decisions.”

“I have no idea what can happen on May 26,” Gia Tortladze, an individual member of the nine-party opposition bloc, said in an interview with the Georgian daily Rezonansi, published on May 24, referring to the opposition’s planned protest rally on May 26.

"The Georgian society today is illogical and I do not know what we should expect from it. Taking into account the fact that we have seen 30,000 people at the warning rally [on May 18] and only 3,000 at a demonstration to protest against the ballot rigging [overnight after the May 21 elections],” he added.

“Elections can be assessed as non-transparent, fraudulent etc. The result is tragic. It is tragic for the country to have 120 members of the National Movement Party in the Parliament. The country has one-party parliament… Because of indifference from one part of the society and because of another part’s unwise decision and because of many other reasons the National Movement will have overwhelming majority in the parliament,” Levan Berdzenishvili of the Republican Part told the Rezonansi.
