Abkhaz Leader Calls for Stability on the eve of Elections

President of the unrecognized Republic of Abkhazia Vladislav Ardzinba called on the population of Abkhazia to actively participate in the forthcoming presidential elections scheduled for October 3 and to maintain stability despite provocations triggered by ?certain forces.? 

?Our country has a unique chance to strengthen independence and ensure safety of our citizens. Russia has already expressed its support to Abkhazia. We will be able to use this chance only if we maintain stability and hold elections in the country,? Vladislav Ardzinba said in a statement issued on October 1.

He said, despite particular attempts to disrupt the elections, the Abkhaz law-enforcement agencies do their best to maintain order and provide calm atmosphere in the country on the eve of the elections.
