Georgia Protests Against Violation of Air Space by Russia

On July 11 The Georgian Foreign Ministry expressed their disapproval over the violation of Georgia?s airspace by Russian forces and assessed the incident as being ?another provocation aimed at aggravating and escalating the situation in the Tskhinvali region.?


On July 11, at 6.34 a.m., a military aircraft penetrated the Georgian airspace from the side of the Russian Federation, at the North and South Ossetian section of the Georgian-Russian border.


The intruding aircraft penetrated Georgian airspace, usually reserved for comercial airlines, to a depth of 45 kilometres where it stayed for 6 minutes before departing, at 6.40 a.m., in the direction of Russia.


The Georgian Foreign Ministry claims that the Russian Federation continues the illegal delivery of armoured vehicles and equipment into Georgia.


The Georgian Foreign Ministry appeals to the Russian side to stop the unconditional shipment of military equipment and armament from its own territory into Georgia.
