Opposition Denounces ‘Government-Sponsored’ Exit Polls

Leaders of the opposition Georgia’s Way and Republican parties, Salome Zourabichvili and Tina Khidasheli, respectively, said that Business Consulting Group (BCG) is not a credible organization enough to trust with exit polls.

“I am not interested in exit polls that are conducted by the BCG,” Tina Khidasheli told Rustavi 2 television.

“These exit polls were in the hands of governmental institutions, so we’d better wait for official results. I will refrain from making any political statements before the announcement of official early results,” Salome Zourabichvili said.

“Brainwashing through the government-sponsored exit polls should stop,” Paata Jibladze of the Labor Party said.

According to the BCG’s exit polls, which were commissioned by the Public Broadcasting, Imedi, Rustavi 2 and Mze television stations, the ruling National Movement party garnered most of the votes in the October 5 local elections, followed by an election bloc of Republicans and Conservatives, then the Labor Party and Industrialists.

Two other parties running in the polls, Georgia’s Way and Party of National Ideology, failed to garner 4% of votes necessary to occupy seats in the Tbilisi city council, according to the exit polls.
