Economy Minister Meets Airline Executives

Russia?s blockade on Georgia will fail to yield any results, ?so I hope it will end as soon as possible,? Irakli Chogovadze, the Georgian Economy Minister said.

He said information about possible financial losses as a result of the embargo is not yet available, but added that ?We will calculate it.?

Chogovadze met on October 3 with top executives of the Georgian air companies operating flights between Russia and Georgia to discuss measures to ease losses expected from Russia?s decision to cut links with Georgia.

After the meeting Chogovadze said that some additional flights will be launched to Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan, and those passengers coming from Moscow to Tbilisi will be able to fly via these countries.

Three Georgian companies operate Tbilisi-Moscow flights: Georgian Airways, Georgian National Airlines and TbilAviaMsheni.

He also said that by suspending air links, Russia has violated all existing bilateral agreements.
