Opposition Calls for Unity at Rally Outside Russian Embassy
A coalition of opposition Republican and Conservative parties called on all political parties in Georgia to ?show unity? amid tensions with Russia and to gather at a protest rally outside the Russian Embassy in Tbilisi on October 4.
?We should not give anyone in Russia even the slightest reason to start speculation about the existence of inner fighting in Georgia. Threats and pressure exerted by the Russian authorities are addressed not only towards the Georgian government, but towards the entire country,? Koba Davitashvili, the leader of Conservative Party running in the Tbilisi mayoral race, said at a news conference on October 1.
?We all should now put aside our election campaigns [ahead of the October 5 local elections] and show unity. So I call on each and every political party and organization in Georgia to unite and to gather outside the Russian Embassy on October 4,? Tina Khidasheli of the Republican Party said.
