Georgia Warns Russia about Navy Maneuvers

The Georgia Foreign Ministry said on September 30 that Russia?s planned navy maneuvers will have negative consequences on Georgia?s ?trade-economic interests? and called on Russia to refrain from a ?show of force.?

?The Russian Federation plans to hold navy exercises in Georgia?s exclusive economic zone, in immediate proximity to Georgia?s territorial waters. The area designated for these military exercises will restrict the operation of Georgia?s Black Sea ports of Batumi, Poti and Supsa causing serious damage to Georgia?s trade-economic interests,? the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry said that the move is ?completely at variance with Georgian legislation, international practice and universally recognized norms and principles of international law.?

?The Russian side will be held fully responsible for all negative consequences that may result from the maneuvers.?
