Senior Russian Senator Speaks of Georgia’s ‘Spy-Mania’
Chairman of the Council of the Federation of Russia Sergey Mironov said on September 29 that arrest of Russian military officers for alleged espionage is a sign of Tbilisi’s “spy-mania” which will might grow into a large-scale confrontation in breakaway Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Russian news agencies reported.
“We know from the history that if somewhere ‘spy-mania’ erupts it means that preparations for war are underway… I have an impression that Georgia intends to solve the Abkhaz and South Ossetian problems through use of force,” RIA Novosti quoted Mironov.
“Allegations about espionage are just delirium, or it also might be ‘a pre-emptive strike’ against Russia. Georgia is just provoking us,” Mironov said.
He said that the Georgian leadership has launched “very dangerous game.”
