Ivanov: Russian Soldiers Beaten in Batumi

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov said on September 28 that seven Russian servicemen were attacked, beaten up and briefly arrested in Batumi.

?Yesterday late in the evening a car with a Russian officer and seven servicemen in it was stopped. They were beaten up; the attackers seized weapons and the car? They were all released last night, but without any explanation of why they were arrested,? Interfax news agency quoted Sergey Ivanov as saying.

He also said that Russia is categorically demanding the immediate release of four Russian military officers who were arrested on September 27 and charged with espionage.

Ivanov also said that Russia?s reaction on the arrest of Russian military officers will be ?adequate.?
