Police Seal Off Russian Troop Headquarters in Tbilisi

Georgian police forces have sealed off an area around the headquarters of the Russian Troops in the Trans-Caucasus.

Georgian television stations showed a group of policemen around the headquarters, but officials have not yet commented on why the area has been sealed off.

Police officials have convened a news conference, to be held at the Interior Ministry at 7 pm local time.

RIA Novosti news agency, quoting Ivan Volynkin of the Russian Embassy in Tbilisi, reported that the Russian side has no information why the headquarters is sealed off.

“We will categorically insist that the cordon be lifted and demand an explanation,” Volynkin said.
