Georgian MFA: Attempts to Freeze Conflicts Ineffective

Russia”s attempts to keep secessionist conflicts in Georgia “frozen” are in vain, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said on September 25.

The statement comes in response to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov”s September 23 statement, where he said: “I think having “hot” and not “frozen” conflicts in this region [South Caucasus] is not in the long-term interest of those [countries] that try to have their influence there [in the region].”

“The Georgian government, with the support of the international community, will resume a direct dialogue with the representatives of the Abkhaz and South Ossetian authorities and will secure success in the process of the conflicts’ peaceful resolution,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.
